Parklands Baptist Church began in 1967 with just 45 members meeting near Globe Cinema in Nairobi. The work had started earlier in 1956 when missionaries sought to reach the Asian community in Parklands, though the early efforts were challenging. This led to the establishment of an English-speaking congregation for the wider community. In 1968, the church moved to its first location at Ojijo Road and Chiromo Lane, near Parklands Sports Club. For more than 20 years, the congregation flourished there, growing from 45 to over 800 members. What started under the leadership of missionaries was soon passed on to Kenyan pastors, marking a new chapter in the church’s journey.
Out of this heritage of faith and service, Parklands Baptist Church has continued to find practical ways to live out the love of Christ in the city and beyond. One such initiative is the Miles for Meals Marathon, a vision born from the desire to combine health, community, and compassion. The marathon was created as a way to fight hunger by channeling proceeds towards school feeding programs, local food banks, and families in need. It is more than a race; it is an opportunity for every participant to run with purpose—turning miles on the track into meals on the table.
